I'm tired, sick and have to wake up earlyish tomorrow, but I can't sleep yet so I find myself blogging. The bf brought me a mug back from Laughlin. He knows me well. Its huge, two cups of coffee huge. More like a bowl really. Which is how I like my coffee cups... to be bowls. Check out how red my eye is.. and my nose. It hurts from all the nose blowing. :(

But I have a place to live! In 16 days at least. Its wonderful, I can't stop talking about it. Loft downtown, no deposit. Pool, workout room, bbq pits! And I can afford it. Barely. I've never wanted time to go by faster than I want the next 16 days to go by. ~Sigh~

I finally got a work out partner and signed up for a gym membership! Even though I prefer to work out on my own or just running around the neighborhood, I needed this jumpstart. And as always along with the feeling of wanting (desperately needing) to get in shape is the wanting to also be healthy(ier). I have never fit diets, they do not work with me. And I think thats fine. You really shouldn't be trying to make yourself fit into a diet you should make it fit you. I believe in taking bits and pieces from them, and making them your own. For instance I will never be so healthy to replace coffee with green tea...gag me. Buut, now and then I can see having a cup of green tea anyway and sometimes it does help me feel like I don't need (as much) coffee.

My new room mate who just moved in brought with her a juicer. I think that will help take the place of a full on detox. Going a full week just drinking juice? That's not going to happen. I need at least on burger and two slices of pizza a week. But replacing lunch or breakfast with a juiced out glass of fruits and veggies? I'm trying it now, will let you know if it works. :)

Whatever she made though, I say already, tastes freaking awesome. This is looking up.

Two brothers from Brazil are living in (on?) their tacked to the side of a building living room for twelve hours a day in the name of art. Crazy.. cool? They have been at this since May and plan on going till august. I'm not really sure I'd call it art, perhaps extremely expressionistic living. Its looks like when it was flat it was an awesome living room.

I still can't believe I'm still here. In LA. I know I need to be planning ahead, I want to go back to school. Vaguely. But every time I think of moving to where I want to be I can't think any further because it means leaving what I have here. I never thought I'd let a person tie me down, but that's exactly what I'm doing. Moving means leaving him, and he is my entire life here, so it means leaving my life. It scares me so much. But I can't see us together forever anyway, I think its something that will have to happen at some point. I just really don't want to do it. But I'm starting to get good interview again. Jobs that would be long term and I need to figure out if I want to continue with them, plan to stay long term, or not. I need to figure out how to rely on myself again.

I just realized I haven't posted in about 8 months. Since my move into the loft downtown really. The artsy hell hole with no windows or internet...or kitchen for the first 3 months. Then my boyfriends place for a month and now here! Los Feliz my own room, living room space out back and a cat!

I've only run into one problem so far. Although I moved most of my stuff in on March 1 and 2nd, had my bed set up within the week, I haven't been able to sleep here yet. Or really I just haven't been able to sleep alone yet. I've tried. I've planned on spending the night here by myself, gotten pj's on and brushed my teeth, tried to go sleep, but always around 2 or 3 I'll text him to see if he's still awake (he always is) and head over, which happens to be about 5 blocks away. Barely even 5 blocks. I know this is a problem, its not healthy, right? I vaguely feel like I'm using him for a good night sleep. But I just can't get to sleep if I can't roll over any bury my head in his chest every now and then.

Help??

I might just need to go through a couple sleepless nights, I guess. Or maybe this isn't even a problem and I'm blowing it out of proportion?

I sometimes get more excited when I see I've received an e-mail from the selby than anything else (job offers and love letters included). If cribs were actually interesting to watch (does it even exists anymore??) I'd like to think it would be something like the experience of glancing through the selby photos.
I digress from my original point which was simply to say: Tina Kalivas has got me inspired. At least for the next couple minutes before I decide inspiration is too tiring and decide a nap is the best possible course of action.
But for now, keep all scissors away from me becuase she makes want to cut a frindge again (trying to grow it out, hating that awkward stage...) and to finish the hemming job I pretended to start last night. Oh train hopping, I think the best thing about it are the people who do it. Some of the greatest people ever.
But this kid, his pictures are really amazing. And now I'm just pissed that I was in San Francisco a couple weeks back and I didn't know about his exhibit. You win some, you lose some.
I think what's so breathtaking is the simple bittersweetness, its so honest. Anyone can take a picture, but it takes an artists to capture a feeling.

Movin' out

Driven from DC to Albuquerque in last three days. Wish I could be everywhere at once. So many wonderful people, so many incredible places. So much to do, so little time. Anyway, in true Kerouac style, I've sped on through taking cat naps here and there. I adore the open road. Driving really does make me happy. Point being, staying in a hotel tonight, meaning a bed.
Oh, wonderful bed.
Thoughts so far.
West Virginia really isn't that bad. In fact I'm a fan. Huntington's cool. Kentucky's beautiful. Tennessee's about as southern as you get. Skipped Nashville, another time. Memphis is wonderful.

With a little tlc it could be hoppin' in no time. Still in love with my car. She's still nameless.(Any suggestions? Something long that can be shortened into a nickname. Pictures to come.) Oklahoma kinda sucks. New Mexico's intriguing, kinda magical. Albuquerque's got this completely awesome edge that's only softened by the smallish population and heat.

Prosecutors will announce decision about Zuma's graft charges on Monday. I'm more worried about his past rape charges. Then again, not a lot of people like the guy so I wouldn't be surprised this was a some set-up. In Maryland, speed camera's can now be placed within half a mile of school zone's. And they have been. I'm pretty sure I've a got a ticket coming. I'm turning 20 this coming year and I'd say I've gotten about 1 speeding for every year of my life. The may be an exaggeration, but you'll never catch me in the slow lane. I consider within 20 obeying the law. It doesn't seem to fly with cops.
And then there's Garmin, you all know, that little navigation system we all have pet names for? Mine is Cleveland, don't ask where it came from. I love him. Without Cleveland, I'd still be lost somewhere in Northern VA.
So, what do you get when you put my love for speeding and Garmin together? a new GPS software app called Phantom Alert. Yes, its as cool as it sounds. Phantom alert tells you where where red light traffic cameras, speed traps, and DUI checkpoints are. For $10 a month. Still debating whether its worth it.
Whats really great is analyzing their target market.
'The safety arguments are moot because the target market is so specific. Anyone willing to pay $10/month for a Phantom Alert subscription either pays more than that a year in traffic tickets, or has a vested interest in keeping up habitual speeding. A Blood or a Crypt?

Gothamist wrote a piece about rising crime in Williamsburg. They mention that crime has been rising since last year and seems to be spiking again, now that winter's over.
What caught my eye was that last year there were reports of machete attacks. Really? At first it seems almost laughable. Until you think about the fact that gang members were attacking people with machete's. Its the stuff nightmares are made of. I probably should've said this earlier, but if you are easily squeamish go read something else. Anyway, you can't live in fear.
The gothamist also metioned two gangs, the pretty boys goonies and the trinitarios, who seem to be resonsible for at least some of the crime surge. Which got me interested. Don't worry, its not just an odd fascination with gangs , I'm just interested in everything. So I looked them up.
What I discovered was the two gangs clashings have become serious problems. Now only have they employed machetes as viable weapons but, they are also using screwdrivers and a fighting during broad daylight.
Don't mean to scare you or anything. Its all about the perfect balance of paranioa and trust.
The most interesting tidbit I discovered is that the trinitarios usual tag reads DPL, which stands for Dios (God) Patria (Country) and Libertad (Liberty) which is on the Domnican flag. To me, that humanizes them. They believe in something.

China is now (again) encouraging its educated youth to go find work in the country. Re-education anyone? Getting flashbacks from Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress? But China's changed right? They are not the evil communists they once were. They don't eat babies now.
Now they do things like pretend to be journalists to catch protester's. And send 11 year old's into the Olympics.
So, really, they haven't changed.

While I'm being vaguely sappy, figure I may as well continue.
Do we really have any idea who our parents are? I have hard enough time remembering my fathers birthday, as far as his favorite ice-cream or favorite child hood memory?
Then again, I don't know my favorite childhood memory...
But really, its not even so important who they were, not that who they were is not important, but more that who they were has made them who they are.
You know how your mother flinches every time you play a certain song. Did you ever think there was a reason behind that. A bad memory perhaps? A fight, a break-up?
What about the story behind your dad's favorite sweater? Maybe it was from an old girlfriend, or his uncle gave it to him.
Of course its not like parents are people, psh. Its the biggest disillusionment all children have to through. The realization that there parents are people, only human, just like them.
Who knows, they could tell you something interesting, or something you needed to hear.

*Gag* I think I'm promoting open communication between children and their parents.... : )

I'm all for most people going about their business as usual. We shouldn't all be constantly stressing about the current recession, it wouldn't do any one any good. However there are a few business' that should be entirely frantic and making changes like there's no tomorrow. AIG, to be specific. Bonus's? Seriously? Have you not heard what small business owners are saying??? Something along the lines of, " We'll be ok, because we know how to get by on less." They are giving big business' advice, simply by stating their MO. Get by on less. OMG. Try it. Then see how quickly we come out of this recession.

I think the only word I remember from my Latin classes is Puella-Girl. And thats most likely because it was on the very first page that I opened to every time I opened up my Latin book. Kinda pathetic, I know. But, who cares about the dead. Lets hear about they dying. According to kottke from an article in Seed Magazine 'the last fluent speaker of a language dying once every two weeks'. I can't imagine what it must be like to be the last person able to speak a certain language. How lonely.
